Who has been honoured with Doctorate of Automobile Engineering by Clemson University - Ratan Tata
Among the important National Current Affairs, On 26th February 2015, Ratan Tata was honoured with an honorary Doctorate of Automotive Engineering at the South Carolina Automotive Summit by the Clemson University. He was presented with this award for his contributions to the global automotive industry. Ratan Tata is the ex-chairman of the Tata Group. In 1981, he was named Chairman of Tata Industries where he was in control for transforming it into a group strategy think tank and a promoter of new ventures in high technology businesses. Ratan Tata serves on the board of directors of Mondelez and Alcoa and was also on the Monetary Authority of Singapore, JP Morgan Chase, Rolls-Royce, Temasek Holdings and international advisory boards of Mitsubishi Corp.
Who has approved the Net Neutrality Rules to protect Open Internet - US Federal Communications Commission
On 26th February 2015, The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) of the United States (US) voted to implement the Net Neutrality Rules. In a group of five-member FCC, two commissioners voted against it whereas three commissioners voted in favour of rules. The Rules were proposed by the FCC Chairman Tom Wheeler. The rules will look forward to make sure that Internet Service Providers (ISPs) in the US treat all legal content equally so as to preserve the Internet as a platform for free expression, innovation and economic growth.
Characterstics of the Net Neutrality Rules
- Broadband access has been categorised as a telecommunication service which means that it will be subject to much heavier regulation.
- Internet providers cannot speed up or block connections for a fee.
- These rules are also applicable to fixed line providers as well as mobile providers.
- The rules bars internet providers from any deals with content firms,for smoother delivery of traffic to consumers.
These rules are identified by three principles, named as America’s broadband networks must be fast, open and fair. The principles were communal by a majority of nearly 4 million people who participated in the FCC’s Open Internet proceeding.
Who has unveiled the World's first 3D printed jet engine - Australian researchers
Among the important International Current Affairs, On 26th February 2015, Australian researchers unveiled the world's first of its kind 3D printed jet engine. It was developed by a team of researchers from Monash Centre for Additive Manufacturing of Monash University in partnership with Amaero Engineering, to commercialize the product.
Characteristic of the Jet Engine
- The 3D printed jet engine was created using innovative additive manufacturing technique.
- The jet engine uses a high-powered laser to fuse powdered nickel, titanium or aluminium into the shape of object.
- The engine will help engineers in making and testing parts of jet engines in days in place of months. Engineers will also be able to manufacture more fuel-efficient jet engines, lighter and cheaper.
Who has been appointed as Special Envoy to Andhra Pradesh by Singapore government - Gopinath Pillai
Among the important appointments, On 26th February 2015, Singapore government appointed Gopinath Pillai as its special envoy to Andhra Pradesh to speed up construction of new capital in the state. Singapore’s Minister for Foreign Affairs and Law K. Shanmugam and Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu announced the appointment of Pillai as special envoy to Andhra Pradesh at the secretariat in capital Hyderabad. Prior to this appointment, Pillai was working as a Chairman of a Singapore based think-tank, Institute of South Asian Studies (ISAS), and an ambassador for city-state's government. He will render advice on various issues like tourism and bringing in capital from foreign companies for building of the new capital. Shanmugam is on a visit to India to strengthen bilateral cooperation with Andhra Pradesh and Rajasthan.
